Equity Research Report: Market Explorer - April 2016

The next major trigger for the Indian markets is Q4 results of India Inc. The Q4 results season starts during second week of April 2016. Markets are expecting the healthy performance of corporate India, however, any downgrade will not augur well. Industrial production data, the trend in global markets, investment by foreign portfolio investors (FPIs), the movement of rupee against the dollar, and crude oil price movement will dictate the trend on the bourses.

  • Nifty gained over 11 percent in the passing month, thanks to favorable Union Budget and supportive cues from both domestic and global front. It gradually rebounded from its major support zone of 6800 and finally settled around month’s high at 7738.40.
  • Post recent surge, we expect consolidation in Nifty; however, the bias would remain on the positive side. So any fall during the consolidation phase should be considered as buying opportunity.
  • Among the sectoral indices, we believe auto, private banks and NBFCs will continue to outperform while PSU banks, metal and realty counters can be considered for short positions.
