Highlights:

  • Bernanke reiterated that the Fed would maintain the "highly accommodative monetary policy for the foreseeable future ".
  • Inventories at U.S. wholesalers unexpectedly declined in May by the most since September 2011 as sales surged, pointing to a pickup in orders and production. The 0.5 percent decrease in stockpiles followed a 0.1 percent drop in April that was initially reported as a gain, the Commerce Department said today in Washington.
  • According to the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), mortgage applications fell 4% last week after plummeting 11.7% the week before.
  • The Energy Information Administration said that U.S. crude oil stocks dropped by a record 20.2 million barrels over the past two weeks, as U.S. refiners raised crude runs in that period to average more than 16 million barrels a day, an eight-year high. Crude stocks are below-year earlier levels for the first time since March 2012.
  • The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported that total domestic gas inventories rose last week by 82 billion cubic feet to 2.687 trillion cubic feet.
 
Week ahead: Copper(Sell)

  • Copper prices which had biggest weekly gain in more than two month on Fed Chairman Comments as well as on dollar weakness could find it hard to sustain at higher levels as data from China showed a slowdown in world’s top consumer of base metal’s.
  • China's annual economic growth slowed to 7.5 percent in the second quarter of 2013 from 7.7 percent in the first quarter,
  • Dollar Strength in anticipation of Improved U.S macroeconomic data to be released this week may push prices further down
  • Improvement in Retail Sales, as well as in other economic data including Building permits could hasten moves by federal reserve to unwind its stimulus programme leading to downward pressure on prices of base metal’s including copper.
