Ipca Laboratories plans to start making active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) for male hormones in a few months’ time from its Nandesari facility near Vadodara in Gujarat. The company has already invested close to Rs 50 crore on the Nandesari facility in the last 15-17 months that would initially make APIs and would eventually start making hormone formulations.

Meditab Holdings Ltd, a wholly owned step-down subsidiary of Cipla Ltd, has acquired an additional 14.5% stake in Uganda-based Quality Chemical Industries Ltd (QCIL), for a consideration of $15 million.

Investments into Indian shares through participatory notes (P—Notes), a preferred route for HNIs and hedge funds from abroad, surged to the highest level in two-and-a-half years to about Rs 1.84 lakh crore (about $29 billion) in October. According to the data released by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the total value of P-Note investments in Indian markets (equity, debt and derivatives) rose to Rs 1,83,862 crore at the end of October. This was the highest level since May 2011, when the cumulative value of such investments stood at Rs 2,11,199 crore. At the end of September, foreign investments in Indian market through P-Notes were at Rs 1.71 lakh crore.

The market sentiment was hit adversely after minutes from the Federal Reserve's last meeting signaled US stimulus may be reduced in coming months. Nifty and the Sensex lost almost two per cent at the closing session on Thursday. Bank, Capital Goods and Realty were the major losers for the day and its BSE indices closed 2.49%, 2.37% and 2.29% down respectively. All 13 BSE sectoral indices closed in red. The market breadth was weak. On BSE, 1,552 shares declined and 922 shares gained.
