  • The U.S. Department of Labor said non-farm payrolls rose to a seasonally adjusted 248K in September, from 180K in the preceding month whose figure was revised up from 142K. Unemployment rate fell to a seasonally adjusted 5.9%, from 6.1% in the preceding month with expectations of 6.1%.
  • Bureau of Economic Analysis said that U.S. trade balance rose to a seasonally adjusted -40.10B, from -40.30B in the preceding month whose figure was revised up from -40.60B. Analysts had expected U.S. trade balance to fall to -40.90B last month.
  • The National Association of Realtors reported that its pending home sales index, based on contracts signed in the previous month, fell 1.0% to 104.7 in August, down from 105.8 in July. The S&P/Case Shiller composite index of 20 metropolitan areas gained 6.7 percent in July year over year, below fore-casts for a gain of 7.5% and following a rise of 8.1% in June.
  • Over the next year or so economic growth should be supported by the recovering US economy that would provide a market for Indian merchandise and service exports, the Bank said in its twice-a-year South Asia Economic Focus report.
