Careers in Stock Market

There are a wide range of careers in the stock market, like:

Stockbroker

A stockbroker acts as an intermediary between the investor and the stock exchange. A stockbroker (or simply broker) buys or sells securities on behalf of investors. You know that one needs a trading account with a stockbroker to buy and sell securities on stock exchanges. Such stockbrokers are usually organisations offering diverse investment services, from trading accounts to dematerialisation accounts.

You can also become an individual broker in the stock market and earn commissions on trades made on behalf of clients. However, you must clear the NISM certification exam and comply with several norms to become a stockbroker in India.

Advisor

You can build a career in the stock market as an investment advisor. There is no guarantee of success in the stock market in India. However, following the right investment strategies can save your portfolio from risks. Many individuals and organisations are unaware of investment strategies and trading tricks. They often partner with investment advisors to maximise their returns. You can offer the right advice or support to retail and institutional investors. In exchange for your services, you can receive commissions. By clearing the NISM investment advisor exam, you can become a certified advisor in India.

Research Analyst or Expert

Research is the base for all investment. You cannot expect better results without indulging in extensive research. HNIs, institutional investors, and other entities with large trading capital must research the market conditions before making a decision. They usually do not indulge in investment research and analysis themselves. Organisations and individuals rely on research analysts to generate market reports, investment insights, and other resources required for informed decision-making. You can also earn a job as a research analyst in a stockbroking firm in India.

Investment Banker

Investment banking is among the high-paying careers in the stock market . Individuals with an MBA degree can build a career in the stock market through investment banking. You can work as a freelancer or get a job at a reputed investment bank. You might know that companies in India require the services of investment bankers at regular intervals. Companies require investment bankers for IPO underwriting, IPO issuance, M&As (Mergers and Acquisitions), financial advisory, and many other purposes.

Relationship Manager

Investment firms or stockbrokers have to maintain their professional relationships with existing clients. They cannot afford to lose their hard-earned clients. Large investment firms have HNIs, UHNIs, and multinational corporations as clients. They depend on expert relationship managers to retain their clients, including corporations.

An equity research analyst indulges in fundamental and technical analysis of public companies. They analyse historical performance, current trends, and other factors of a company’s stocks to generate insights. Based on research, they can also speculate on the future price movements of stocks. Individual investors and organisations often depend on equity research reports to make informed decisions.

Fund Manager

Mutual funds, ETFs, and other collective investment schemes often include stocks. These schemes require expert fund managers for administration. A fund manager will make day-to-day investment decisions and implement the right strategies to avoid portfolio risks. AMCs and fund houses often hire expert fund managers in India.
